s Devonshire Apple Dappy s   


This is our variation on a wonderful recipe we found for Devonshire Apple Dappy. It makes a great dessert to follow a traditional Sunday roast dinner on a cool fall day
Yields: 6 Servings


Ingredients

2 1/2 tablespoon Lemon Juice or 1/2 fresh lemon juiced
1 tablespoon Lyles Golden Syrup
6 fluid oz Water
4 ounces Sugar
8 ounces Flour Self Raising
1 teaspoon Baking powder
5 fluid oz Milk
2 ea Apple Sharp cooking types
1 tablespoon Light Brown Sugar or Demarrara
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon Mixed Spice
3 ounces Butter divided


 
Instructions
Preheat an oven to 375 F .

Place the lemon juice, 1 oz of the butter and the Lyles Golden Syrup plus the water and sugar in a small saucepan and heat gently, stirring until everything hass melted and fully blended.

In the meantime, in a mixing bowl add the flour and baking powder and rub in the remaining butter until you achieve a nice crumb texture. Add the milk to make a soft dough adn trun out onto a floured surface or Silpat and roll out to a rectangle of about 8" x 5".and roughly 1/4" thick.

Peel, core and chop the apples into small chunks of about 1/2" or slightly less and spread them evenly across the pastry. From the short end of the pastry, roll up the pastry like a swiss roll then slice into 1/2" slices. Arrange the slices in a greased baking dish, not paclking therm too tight and pour the sauce mixture over them.

Bake for about 30 minutes

Serve witha good dollop of Devonshire Clotted Cream
